The printing strip has two sets of parallel conductor tracks on a supported film, the tracks comprising stylii at their ends in a longitudinal zone. An associated film carries a number of shift register chips (20). Each shift register comprises a communication element associated with the chip film and overlapping an edge region of the film, the mating faces of the element and film carrying interconnection tracks in number equal to those of the register chip control inputs to ensure that the relevant control inputs of the various chips are connected in parallel while the element carries those track positions connecting the register inputs to the strip terminals. The film and element are sandwiched and supported on an aluminium support provided with a longitudinal groove to receive the chips. The two edges of the groove are of different height to define on respective sides of the groove two zones where one is received relative to the other by the thickness of the element.
