The telescopic assembly of steps comprises several stages (13) each of which is supported by a frame consisting of two rear columns (15) and two parallel base-members (17) and each of which can slide inside the frame of the next upper stage. The base-members (17) run on rollers (18) having an horizontal axis of rotation which are mounted almost the width of the stage apart. Other rollers (23) having a vertical axis of rotation are mounted on the base-members (17) of each stage (13) and engage into guiding grooves (22) provided on the base-members (17) of the next lower stage.
