<p>The material contains by wt. 7.69% of boron carbide and 92.31% of silicones, and absorbs rapid and thermal neutrons together with all atomic or other radiation. The material is pref. made by hot mixing of the two constituents, and is pref. injected into a cavity formed between two rigid elements such as steel plates. The material also forms a fire barrier. In the cavity, the mixt. pref. forms a flexible and elastic lining exerting mechanical pressure and joining the elements together. The mixt. of silicones and boron carbide pref. forms a flexible foam which can be injected into cavities between rigid elements. In addn. to absorbing atomic rays, this material provides heat- and sound-insulation.</p> |
