The vending machine desingnd to accept a mumber of coins of different denominations, and includes a mechanism for giving charnge when a high value coin is inserted, or to reject the coin if there is insufficient change int the machine or if the article cannot be delivered to the customer. The mechanism includes a coin acceptor(CS) having coin paths(L1, L2, L3) in a system for sorting inserted coins with a coin of the highest acceptable denomiation being temporarity stored until either an article and the necessary change are prepd.
