MAGNETOOPTIC NONRECIPROCAL OPTICAL ELEMENT

摘要

PURPOSE:To form a small and stable waveguide type nonreciprocal optical circuit element by using a garnet film having an easy magnetization axis in the specific direction within the film plane. CONSTITUTION:The nonreciprocal optical element of the constitution wherein an orthorhombic anisotropic (110) film having an easy magnetization axis in the specific direction in the film plane is employed as a ferromagnetic garnet film, said magnetic garnet film is installed between a polarizer allowing the transmission of linearly polarized light and a polarizer allowing the transmission of the polarized light forming a 45 deg. inclination to the light transmitting through said polarizer, and said magnetic garnet film and two polarizers are disposed in such a manner that light passes through the polarizer magnetic garnet film polarizer and that the light propagates in parallel with the easy magnetization axis within the magnetic garnet film and further a means of applying electric field to the magnetic garnet film in parallel with the easy magnetization axis is made.
