In the case of a permanent way having frames (2), which are preferably made of reinforced concrete, which are placed alongside and aligned with one another in the longitudinal direction of the track and are used to support the running rails (1) of the track, supports (3), which are parallel to the running rails (1), are fastened to those parts of the frames (2) which are adjacent to one another and extend transversely to the longitudinal direction of the rails, to permit transmission of transverse forces in the expansion joints. The fastenings of these supports (3) which pass across the tops of the frames in the longitudinal direction of the track are closer to the expansion joints (4) of the frames (2) than are the supports (1'), which are respectively adjacent to the said expansion joints, of the running rails (1). In this fashion, the frames are connected in the region of the expansion joints in a manner which is articulated to a limited extent, but which is also flexible, i.e. elastic, to a limited extent, the connection on the one hand being able to absorb the transverse forces occurring when the track is passed over, and on the other hand being sufficiently rigid to prevent the dreaded "pumping" of the frames in the region of the frame joints. <IMAGE>
