PURPOSE:To perform an easy start of electric discharge in a luminous tube and reduce a time required for its restart, by providing a filament in the luminous tube, connecting one end of the filament to an electrode and arranging the other end of said filament at a minimum distance of not more than 1mm. from the electrode. CONSTITUTION:Main electrodes 2, 3 are provided in the both ends of a luminous tube 1 and connected to a lighting starter device 12 through lead wires 8, 9. One end of a filament 5 consisting of tungsten is connected to the main electrode 2, and the other end of the filament 5 is arranged in a location at a distance of not more than 1mm. from a protrusion 14 of the main electrode 2. Further the other end of the filament 5 is connected to the starter device 12 through a lead wire 10. Then in case of restarting an electric discharge lamp, the filament 5 is heated by flowing an electric current in the filament 5 from the starter device 12 through the lead wires 8 and 10 to keep a state of electric discharge between the filament 5 and the main electrode 2, and then voltage is applied to across the main electrodes 2, 3 from the starter device 12 through the lead wires 8 and 9 to start electric discharge. |
