A front box, made of fire-resistant material, contains front and rear holes for passage of a conveyor chain, in a fire-protected closure unit for a passageway for a conveyor chain in a firescreen wall. Closure of the holes (15,16) through the front (9) and rear sides (10) of the box (1) is effected by slides (17). The edge (18) of these facing the chain (4) incorporates an indentation partially enclosing it. Above the holes the box has a chamber, closed at the bottom by a closing device which opens in the event of fire, and filled with bulk fire-retarding or fireproof material (30). The closing device can have a flap or two, one above the other (23,24), mounted on one side, held shut by a bolting mechanism released on outbreak of fire.
