The device comprises two movable bars which, starting from a removal point at which they are near to one another, move upwards and at the same time remove an article of clothing at the exit of the smoothing machine. During their subsequent downward movement, the two movable bars move laterally away from one another and at the same time move past opposite sides of a fixed bar, onto which they transfer the article of clothing. The removal and depositing of further articles of clothing on the fixed bar are carried out by repeating this operation.
