The skittle erecting machine has a frame (6) above the skittle erecting surface, in which two endless chains (8) revolve. A square-section bar (9) is pivotably attached to the latter and carries tensioning elements (10) with rollers on which draw cables are guided. Also arranged on the square-section bar (9) is another control rod (11) interacting with a stop (12) fixed to the frame. This stop (12) contains a roller which rests in the track of the control rod (11) which is fixedly connected to the square-section bar (9). The square-section bar (9) is moved reciprocally between the chain edges, only in a single plane. As a result, a reliable braking effect of the movement of the draw cable is achieved before the placement of the skittles, even if the conventional simple design of a skittle erecting machine is retained. <IMAGE>
