<p>Storage tanks for carrying petroleum prods. are coated internally with a polyfluorocarbon or silicone resin, to allow oil-based and aqueous cargoes to be carried alternately without mutual contamination. Esp. applicable to holds in seagoing tankers, to allow loads of oil, fresh water and/or salt water ballast to be carried successively with minimum of draining and cleaning, e.g. tankers returning to load at oil terminals in desert areas can carry sweet water for irrigation purposes. Use of coatings of PTFE or fluorinated ethylene or propylene polymers quoted for their low surface tension properties.</p> |
