<p>The conveyor comprises two, parallel screws on axes spaced by a distance which is less than the sum of the radii of both screws but greater than the radius of either screw. The screws rotate with little clearance inside a conveying tunnel. Pref. the screws are of equal pitch and have equal, outer dias. Pref. the screws rotate at the same speed and in the same direction. Pref. the screw conveyor is installed in a mixing plant for reconstituting milk powder in water to feed young farm animals. Milk powder and water are charged in predetermined proportions into a tank fitted with a rotary mixing agitator. The screw conveyor is used to transfer fatty powders, partic. a full cream milk powder. The transfer is pref. from a storage hopper into a mixing tank also supplied with water to make a feed for young animals. The screws intermesh so that they are self-cleaning as they rotate. This eliminates the single screw problems of blocked powder build-up.</p> |
