Solar powered water heater - has plastics heating coil embedded in mass of concrete which has matt-black surface

The solar heat collector, which is effectively a storage heater, consists of a mass of concrete (10) cast in the form of a prism and having its outer surface painted matt black. A helical P.V.C. heating coil (12) is embedded in the concrete block so that the coil is some 4cm. below the surface. Flow and return water connections are provided at the end of the block. The whole assembly is encased in translucent corrugated sheeting (14) and supported on wooden frames (16). During periods of solar radiation the water is heated directly whereas during the night the heat stored in the concrete flows outwards to the surface, heating the water.
