The present invention is directed to a coated, biaxially oriented polyester film having a polyester film support, a latex coating on the support which includes a cross-linkable methyl methacrylate-ethyl acrylate-methacrylamide terpolymer, and a silicone coating on at least a portion of the latex coating which is derived from a dispersion of colloidal silica in an alcohol-water solution of the partial condensate of a silanol. The present invention is also directed to a coating process for producing such films, which process involves applying the mentioned latex coating to a uniaxially drawn polyester film support, heating it to dry the coating, stretching the film in a direction normal to the direction of the uniaxially drawn film to produce a biaxially oriented film, applying the mentioned silicone coating and heating it to dry the coating. |
