A drive is provided which accepts a cartridge containing a flexible magnetic recording disk and provides for simultaneous transducer access to both recording surfaces of the disk. The cartridge is inserted into a tray (31) pivotted on pivots (32) in a housing (12). The pivotal axis (32-32) is off-set to one side of the parallel diameter of a disk. The wall (12c) of the housing has a diagonal slot in it and when the tray (31) is pivotted into alignment therewith, the cartridge can be inserted. Ears (12d) prevent insertion or withdrawal of the cartridge at other times. The tray (31) is then pivoted to lower the centre hole of the disk onto the centre spindle (50) and the metallic hub onto the magnetic chuck (48). The disk swings about the tray axis to carry one of its recording surfaces into transducing relationship with head (42a) and the other recording surface into transducing relationship with head (42b). Thus both sides of the disk are simultaneously accessible. Arm (54) holds head (42a) clear as the cartridge is inserted. An overcentre spring mechanism ensures that the tray (31) is retained in its end positions.
