In a process for continuously charging coarse-grained and fine- grained solid fuel onto a fixed bed 16 of fuel within a reactor for gasifying the fuel by means of a rotary distributor, fine-grained fuel having a mean particle size up to 5 mm. is placed via outlet 7a onto the fixed bed in helical layers separately from more coarsely grained fuel placed via outlet 6a and having a mean particle size above 5 mm. The more coarsely grained fuel is preferably deposited directly on fine-grained fuel which has just been deposited, so as to prevent or reduce entrainment of the fine- grained fuel by the product gas. The rotary distributor that includes at least one passage 7 for the fine- grained fuel and at least one passage 6 for the more coarsely-grained fuel. The fine and coarse grained particles may be supplied from separate hoppers or separation may be effected by a sieve or a rotating plate. The outlet for fine grained particles is slightly lower than the outlet for coarse grained particles. <IMAGE> |
