A plastic container, such as a crate, a stackable tray or the like, is provided with a peripheral edge which is able to act as a support or abutment edge or as a handle. This peripheral edge comprises a profiled section which is in the shape of an inverted U and comprises an inner flange or wall section and an outer flange which runs substantially parallel to the inner flange. The container is characterized in that a chamber is integrated in the peripheral edge, in which chamber a flexible tag can be held in a recessed position. As a result, the tag can be secured in the edge without adhesive and in a protected position, and consequently cannot easily be damaged. The tag can be placed fully automatically in the chamber and can virtually only be removed by damaging it irreparably.
