PURPOSE:To obtain a lubricant showing excellently lubricating effects for many hours in application to a magnetic recording material, providing a magnetic recording material having excellent running properties, wear resistance, durability, etc., containing a specific compound. CONSTITUTION:A lubricant contains ammonium salt of a fluorinated alkylcarboxylic acid of formula I (Rf is 8-30C fluorinated alkyl; R1 to R3 are H or fluorinated alkyl with the proviso that at least one of R1 to R3 is >=10C fluorinated alkyl). The compound of formula I, for example, is obtained by blending under heating and reacting a carboxyl-terminated long-chain fluorinated alkylcarboxylic acid of the formula HOOCRf with a long-chain fluorinated alkyl group-containing amine of formula II. In order to apply a lubricant containing the compound of formula I to a magnetic recording material, the lubricant is dissolved in a solvent such as CFC, applied to the surface of a magnetic recording material by a method such as coating or spraying and dried. The amount of the lubricant applied is preferably 1-20mg/m<2>. |
