Glazing apparatus 10 provides a recessed rubber pad 24 for accommodating the base 18 of a holloware item 14 to be glazed. The item 14 is releasably retained on the pad 24 by suction. The pad 24 is provided on an arm 34, which is mounted on a tipping plate 38 for rotation by an electric motor 16 and which can be tipped under the control of a piston and cylinder arrangement 42 from a position for receiving glaze from a dispenser 52, to a position through approximately 150 DEG when excess glaze drains from the item 14 into a sump 54.
