摘要 PURPOSE:To form a polygonal optical transmitting base material with a high degree of integration by coverting rod-shaped photoconductive element materials, bundled in the closest package state, with a tubulous element material with a low melting point, and then by performing a heat treatment. CONSTITUTION:For example, six rod-shaped photoconductive element materials 1 (where number 2 is a core layer and 3 is a cladding layer) are provided around one material to form the assembly of element materials 1, and into a tubulous element material 7 made with glass having a lower melting point than glass of said cladding layer 3, said assembly of the element materials is inserted. then, while the material 4 is evacuated by a vacuum device 7 connected to one terminal of the material 4, the material 4 is rotated as shown by an arrow R and heated by an oxyzen and hydrogen flame burner 5 reciprocating as shown arrows A and B; and the softened and molten material is made to enter the adjacent part space (i.e. recess part 6) of each rod-shaped photoconductive material 1 and then cooled to form an optical transmitting base material 8 whose cross section is nearly hexagonal.
