PURPOSE:To shorten the restarting time by providing a heating member in the proximity of an electrode in a light emitting tube while connecting a normal open heat responsive element and a filament in series thereby facilitating the starting of discharge under high pressure mercury vapor. CONSTITUTION:Main electrodes 2, 3 are arranged in a silicon light emission tube 1 of high pressure mercury lamp while a filament 5 made of tungsten is connected to the main electrode 2 and the filament 5 is connected to the electrode 3 in series with a normal open heat responsive element 14 and the filament 15. Then the electrodes 2, 3 are connected through a lighting device 12 to the power source 13. Consequently when unlighting a high pressure mercury lamp and starting again, the current will flow through the filaments 5, 15 to heat the electrode 2 under closed state of the heat responsive element 14, thereby the starting of discharge can be facilitated even when the vapor pressure of mercury is higher than 100 Torr and the restarting time can be considerably shortened. |
