Title compds.(I; R1, R2 and R3 are H, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, lower alkylthio, halogen, trifluoromethyl; R4 = lower alkyl, H; A = methyl, methoxy; X = O, S; Y = H, halogen; Z = C1-8 alkylene; n=1-3), useful as herbicides, were prepd. by the reaction of II and III. Thus, 100 ml 4-≮2-(4-chlorophenyl)ethoxy≉-phenylisocyanate and 1.5 g N,O-dimethylhydroxylamine were mixed at 20-30≦̸C in benzene, stirred for 30 min to give 2.9 g N'-4-2-(4-chlorophenyl)ethoxyphenyl-N-methoxy-N-methyl-urea.
