Record-player which has its control elements grouped into one sub-unit. The control mechanism has a motor driven turntable mounted on a chassis with the playback arm, and consists of a number of control elements including a main cam with a number of cam profile surfaces with cam followers for the vertical and swivel movements of the arm. They are all compacted into a sub-unit which is independent of the shape of the turntable. The turntable (1) made in one piece from a deep drawn steel plate is connected to the drive belt (3) which links it to the electromotor (4). The main cam disc (13) made from plastic is mounted on a spindle (22) and has a hollow hub (14). The main cam is made with gear teeth not extending around the entire circumference. This provides the idling period when vertical movement is required in the playback arm. During this period the energy stored in a spring is used to produce the vertical motion.
