PURPOSE:To prevent the smell generation at the start of the air conditioner and to decrease a load on a compressor by providing a bypass passage in parallel to a heat exchanger and passage switching-over means. CONSTITUTION:A bypass passage 14 is provided in parallel to an air passage 5 which is incorporated with the heat exchanger 2 and a fan 3. The passage switching-over means 12 and 13 are provided at an inlet side and outlet side of the air conditioner 1. At the start of the air conditioner, the inlet and outlet 12 and 13 are both closed by the passage switching-over means and at the same time, the air passage 5 and bypass passage 14 are communicated with each other. Then the air within the air conditioner 1 is circulated by the fan 3 through the heat exchanger 2, air passage 5, and bypass passage 14. In this while, the air is heated or cooled to a preset temperature. After that the air is blown into a room to be air-conditioned by the switching-over of the passage switching-over means 12 and 13. Accordingly, the smell of cigarette smoke, dust and the like attached to the heat exchanger 2 can be prevented from being blown into the room. Further, the starting load on the compressor can be much decreased. |
