The electric motor construction includes a central cylindrical rotor (9) and an outer stator (2). The stator has a core of radially projecting components carrying the windings. This assembly is covered by a layer of insulating material (10). An outer sleeve (1) is then fitted to the stator to complete the magnetic circuit and to conduct away heat generated in the stator during operation. The outer sleeve is formed as a corrugated cylinder, the corrugations lying parallel and extending around the circumference of the cylinder. When the cylinder is fitted to the stator it is axially compressed so that successive ribs of the cylinder come into contact. The cylinder may be made up from a number of corrugated units according to the required final size. Half cylinders may be used if the sleeve is to be removable.
|
