A filter attachment machine initially produces double-filter cigarettes, which have to be halved in order to obtain individual filter-tipped cigarettes. It has a drying cylinder in which an odd number of grooves are moulded, every second groove receiving the double cigarettes. A second grooved cylinder takes the rods (the cut double cigarettes) from every second groove in the drying cylinder after the rods have passed the second groove, without being conveyed onto the second cylinder. A cutting apparatus cuts up the double cigarettes after they have passed the second cylinder and are still situated on the drying cylinder. <IMAGE>
