A sintered iron-based friction material consists of a sintered mixt. of (by wt.) 1-5 (pref. 2)% Cu, 3-6 (pref. 4)% NiSO4, 4-8 (pref. 4)% graphite, 1-3 (pref. 1)% pyroceramic, 3-10 (pref. 7)% CaSi2, 0.4-2 (pref. 1.5)% Si, 0.2-1 (pref. 0.5)% SiC, 0.2-2 (pref.1)% FeSi2, 0.5-5 (pref. 3)% asbestos and balance (pref. 76%) Fe. The material is useful in friction devices used in cars, tractors, aircraft, road-building machines and other devices operating under dry friction and liquid lubrication conditions. Compared with prior art sintered iron-based materials, the material has 1.5-3 times higher wear resistance and 1.2-1.4 times higher friction coefft. under liquid lubrication conditions, 1.4-1.7 times higher wear resistance and 1.2-1.3 times higher friction coefft. under dry friction conditions, and has 1.3 times higher ultimate strength and 1.2 times higher impact strength. In braking tests, the material showed a wear after 100 brakings of 4-8 microns with lubrication and 15-18 microns without lubrication, a friction coefft. of 0.13-0.14 with lubrication and 0.38-0.40 without lubrication, an ultimate strength of 12.3.13 kg/sq.mm and an impact strength of 0.7 kg.-m/sq.cm.
|
