This invention relates to an apparatus (Figure 1) and a method for inserting a plurality of elongated foodstuff products, which are as a rule wrapped, such as butter or margarine, into folding boxes. The apparatus is composed of a shaping device, which shapes products of a predetermined shape and size, and a conveying device which conveys the separately wrapped products. The products are moved forwards in two rows, and a device is provided which divides the rows up into separate groups of products made up of a preselected number of items, for example four. The conveying device moves the two rows of packaged products on two conveying paths arranged alongside one another. Individual foldable and prenotched boxes are fed to the product conveying path. A device is provided for folding each of the boxes around each of the groups of products, so that a preselected number of products are inserted into a folded box. The boxes remain on the two separate conveying paths and are closed and sealed on the said two separate paths. <IMAGE>
