Method and device for improving the efficiency of a heating boiler, it being the case that the flue gases delivered from the boiler are drawn in by means of a ventilator from a flue gas collecting vessel, provided with a normal discharge duct, via an additional heat exchanger, and that the flue gases drawn in by the ventilator are fed once again to the flue gas collecting vessel, while the capacity of the ventilator is larger in its clean state than can be the maximum quantity of flue gases delivered from the boiler, and the device is constructed in such a way that a portion of the flow of flue gases that is delivered from the ventilator passes directly into the flue gas discharge duct, and that another portion fills the underside of the downdraught diverter with flue gases.
