PURPOSE:A specific mutant in Brevibacterium or Corynebacterium is used to produce L-glutamine in high yield. CONSTITUTION:A microorganism in Brevibacterium or Corynebacterium, preferably a corynepholum L-glutamine-producing strain, is treated with N-methyl-N'- nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine and cultured in a medium containing a compound with an activity of vitamin-P such as aesculetin in a large amount, then a mutant that can grow in the medium is collected. Then, a usual cultural medium containing carbon sources, nitrogen sources, inorganic ions, organic trace untrients is used to culture the above mutant, Brevibacterium flavum AJ11576, at about 25-37 deg.C and about 4-8pH. Then, the culture mixture is treated with an ion-exchange resin to collect L-glutamine. |
