The tool (4,5) holder comprises a vertical channel (2) for the tool shank (4) in a vertically movable tool post (1) and a bore (13) parallel to the channel. The bore contains a double-ended, pivoted lever (12), whose one end (15) engages a tool clamp (8) in a bore (7) below the pivot (14), whilst the other end (16) is engaged by a piston rod (19) of a hydraulic cylinder (21). This cylinder with its piston (20) are arranged in a stepped horizontal bore (22,23) above the pivot (14), and one cylinder bore (23) has a pressure supply connection (24). A bore parallel to and below this cylinder bore contains a spring (27) at one end, bearing on a plug (31) whilst its other end acts on the double-end lever.
