Traffic is prevented from leaving carriageways, or skidding off on bridges, junctions and other danger points, by a guide rail bounding the side of the road. The board rail is shaped e.g. by bending away from its longitudinal axis, once or more on alternate sides. The original longitudinal axis may be straight, curved, or directed towards the ground. The rail can have a complex profiling system, or can comprise a number of tongues bent about their longitudinal axis and interwoven. This reduces any danger of vehicles recoiling from the guide-rail or colliding heavily against it.
|
