Steel ship hulls are cathodically protected from corrosion by using Al-Zn-Sn alloy core(12) or activator. The anode assembly is attached to the hull exterior by using a low-elec. resistance surface mounting system. The latter consists of a welded metal base, T-bolt, conductive brass mounting pad, top washer, and means for pressing the washer toward the mounting pad. The sacrificial Al alloy anode has a surface potential of -1000 to -1300 mV with respect to the Ag/AgCL half cell.
