PURPOSE:To reduce the internal resistance of a battery and to improve the low temperature characteristics and heavy load discharge characteristics by using a nonwoven fabric comprising a mixture of short carbon fibers and hydrophilic fibers as an impregnated material for the retention of an alkaline electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:A zinc negative electrode 5, positive electrode 8, separator 7, and an impregnated material 6 provided adjacent to the separator 7 and between those electrodes are combined to form a button type alkaline battery. Then, the impregnated material used is a nonwoven fabric comprising a mixture of carbon fibers which are prepared by baking rayon, polyacrylonitrile, pitch, or phenol fibers at a temperature of 1,000 deg.C or higher and hydrophilic fibers such as cellulose fibers. The impregnated material is provided with excellent conductivity because of high burning temperature of carbon fibers such as 1,000 deg.C or higher and with hydrophilic property from the hydrophilic fibers, thus the internal resistance of the battery is reduced to increase the battery voltage during discharging, and the heavy load discharge characteristics and the discharge capacity at low temperature can be improved. |
