PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to reproduce a proper image by making γcorrections with necessary characteristics when there are areas that need to be γ-corrected with plural characteristics in one original. SOLUTION: A γ-correcting circuit 50 is equipped with a conversion table 52 having a memory table containing γcorrection values and a memory control part 51 which makes γcorrections by using data in this conversion table 52. Then the γ correcting circuit 50 changes an image signal which is '40' in, for example, 256 gradations to '60' by 7-correction when a conversion table select signal is '0' indicating a binary area. When the conversion table select signal is '1' indicating a half-tone area, an image signal which is, for example, '40' in 256 gradations is changed to '130' by γ correction. Thus, the conversion table is specified by pixels and the γ corrections are controlled in detail. |
