A recovery vehicle 1 has a lifting boom 2, which extends centrally in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle 1. At its front end, the lifting boom 2 is pivotally supported about a shaft 3, which is arranged between the front and rear wheels 4, 5 of the vehicle 1. The vehicle 1 furthermore has a lifting platform 10 fitted above the lifting boom for carrying a vehicle that is to be recovered. The platform 9 extends from the driver's cab 10 of the recovery vehicle 1 to towards the tail section of the vehicle. In order to prevent the vehicle carried striking the driver's cab when manoeuvring the lifting boom 2, the load platform 9 at its front edge is pivotally supported about a transverse shaft 11. This is preferably fitted immediately behind the driver's cab 10. At its rear edge, the load platform is mounted such that it can slide on the lifting boom 2. <IMAGE>
