Weighing appts. for fowl hanging from shackles of a continuously moving overhead conveyor includes balance arms extending radially outwardly from a central shaft. The outer end of each arm is adapted to grip and lift a shackle so that it is no longer supported by the conveyor. The inner end of each arm cooperates with a load cell located in the axis of the central shaft. The shape of the pick-up member may be adapted to the shape of the shackle and so can be used with almost any type of shackle. since the pick-up member moves along with the conveyor no special rollers are necessary and all relative movement between the shackle and pick-up member which would cause friction and dragging is eliminated.
