<p>The distance between a metal workpiece and a tool carrier, which can be moved relatively in a first direction towards and away from each other and in a second direction at right angles to this first direction, is maintained constant, at any relative position during movement in the second direction, by means of a low power 19G arc. The arc voltage, used to control the spacing between the workpiece and the tool carrier, is not affected by heat (e.g. from an oxy-fuel cutting torch) or impurities and the arc does not exert pressure on the workpiece (e.g. a sheet).</p> |
