<p>PURPOSE:To prevent ink from drying and changing its properties during long-term storage in containers or writing utensils and to prevent clogging etc. inside the writing utensiles, by incorporating hydroquinone (or a derivative) into an aq. soln. of a dye in water ink for writing utensils. CONSTITUTION:In a water ink compsn. for use in fountain pens, marking pens, etc., 0.001-5wt% (based on the weight of the whole ink compsn.) hydroquinone and/or at least one hydroquinone derivative of the formula [wherein R1, R2 are each H, a 1-4C alkyl, -(CH2CH2O)n group; n is 1-3] are/is incorporated into an aq. soln. of a dye such as Eosine, Direct Deep Black XA or Rhodamine B, to produce the desired compsn. Examples of said hydroquinone derivatives are ethylhydroquinone and hydroquinone monomethyl ether. By the incorporation of hydroquinone, the evaporation of water in said ink is inhibited and the precipitation of the dye is prevented.</p> |
