PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a polyarylene sulfide that has a high crystallization rate and a high whiteness as well as a high mechanical strength. SOLUTION: This production of a polyarylene sulfide by a reaction of an alkali metal sulfide with dihaloaromatic compound in an organic amide-based solvent comprises adding an acid or its hydrogen salt to a slurry of polyarylene sulfide after the reaction so that pH of the slurry becomes 7.0-11.0, and treating the slurry with an acid. |
