The procedure for extracting energy from straw is based on previous practice. Straw in highly-compressed bales is fed through a vertical opening into a charging system, debouching into a precombustion chamber in a boiler with also an afterburning chamber. The bales are pressed against a thrust block. The straw is carbonised in the first chamber (2), the gases generated being burnt in the second (3). Part of the flue gas produced is recirculated to provide the carbonisation heat. Heat can be extracted from the gas in the passages leading to the useful load, and returned to the afterburning chamber. |
