1381847 Making tubular cartons TETRA PAK DEVELOPPEMENT SA 17 July 1973 [25 Aug 1972] 33891/73 Heading B5D [Also in Division B8] A tubular carton having four side panels with the first and fourth panels joined together by a glue flap is erected in a machine by raising the first and fourth panels to an inclined position in which they are heated to soften the sealing medium, passing the flattened carton through rolls to press the heated flaps together and to cool the sealing medium and finally erecting the carton to tubular form ready for delivery to a filling and sealing machine. The top blank of a stack 9 has panels 1 and 4 raised by suction pads 16 and is pushed by a member 25 to feed rolls which pass it to a station B where rolls 29 retain panels 1 and 4 while the sealing medium is softened by heaters 34, 35. The blank is subsequently passed by a conveyer to station C where rolls 41 pivot to flatten the blank which then passes to pressers rolls 44 and a cooling roll 45 fed internally with water. At a station D the creases are broken (see Division B8) and the carton "squared" ready for delivery to the filling machine. |
