<p>The water turbine or pump comprises a hollow shaft (2) carrying a bladed rotor (1) with radial entry from a spiral housing (4) via fixed (5) and adjustable (6) guide vanes. A seal (10) is arranged adjacent to the end plate of the rotor. The large-dia. shaft extends radially up to a single sealing area adjacent to the OD of the rotor blade assembly (3), the seal being provided by a slide ring assembly (10). The seal may be a barrier water-pressurised (11) contact-less slide ring seal and may be arranged at a dia. such that the hydraulic axial thrust is balanced.</p> |
