PURPOSE:To aim at preventing deformation and breakage of solid electrolyte to be caused by thermal deformation of cathode active material holding matter by separating a cathode chamber into many chambers by means of partition walls in the form of modules so as to restrict thermal deformation of cathode active material holding matter in each chamber to a small quantity. CONSTITUTION:A cathode chamber 10 formed between a solid electrolyte tube 1 and a cathode container 5 at the periphery of a battery is separated into a required number of chambers of a same form by partition walls 11 in the form of modules. In each separated cathode chamber is disposed sulfur- impregnated graphite felt 3 as cathode active material holding matter with a little void 21 in it. The sulfur-impregnated felt 3 contacts the solid electrolyte tube 1, when the battery operates. Since the sulfur-impregnated felt 3 is separated into parts, if thermal deformation occurs to it in a temperature rising process up to a battery actuating temperature, thermal deformation in each is restricted to a small quantity, so the battery operates normally without deformation or breakage of the solid electrolyte tube 1. |
