NEW MATERIAL:An antibiotic substance, neopolyoxin C having the following physical, chemical and biological properties: Melting point, colors slowly at 190 deg.C and above, foams and decomposes at 194-197 deg.C; elemental analysis, C=47.32%, H=5.09%, N=13.61%, S and halogen are absent; optical rotation, [alpha]D<28>= +49.5 deg. (C=1.0, water); easily soluble in water, hardly soluble or insoluble in organic solvents; amphoteric substance; molecular weight, 537; positive to ninhydrin reaction, etc., negatige to o-dianisidine reaction, etc.; effective to inhibit the growth of phytopathogenic fungi and yeasts. USE:Agricultural and horiticultural fungicide. PROCESS:The objective antibiotic can be prepared e.g. by inoculating Streptomyces sp. S-768 strain (FERM-P No.4748) in a medium, and culturing pref. under neutral pH conditions at 25-35 deg.C for 2-7 days under aeration and agitation. |
