An absorbent composite is produced by a process which comprises applying an aqueous solution of a salt of acrylic or methacrylic acid in an intermittent pattern to a formed fibrous substrate, followed by irradiating the substrate containing said aqueous solution with sufficient electromagnetic or corpuscular ionizing radiation to convert the said salt to a water-swellable polymer. |
