The inductive heating ring for use on a domestic or commercial cooker includes a coil of wire (10) fed with a high frequency current. The coil is wound on a truncated right cone so that the smallest diameter coils are higher than the largest diameter coils. The difference in the distance between the coils and the metal plate (4) to be heated compensates the otherwise irregular heating. The height of the truncated cone (h) need not be large - typically one tenth of the coil maximum diameter. The coil is easily formed and does not require uneven coil spacing to provide a uniform heating intensity.
