New catalysts comprise 100 pts. wt. of a support, 0.05-0.6 (pref. 0.1-0.5) pts. wt. of a Pt-gp. metal (M), 0.005-5 (pref. 0.01-3, esp. 0.05-0.4) pts. wt. of Hf, 0.005-3 (pref. 0.07-2, esp. 0.2-0.5) pts. wt. of at least one metal (M') selected from Mg, Tc and Re, and 0.1-15 pts. wt. of a halogen. The support is pref. alumina. M is pref. Pt or Ir and M' is pref. Mn or Tc. The catalysts can be prepd. by impregnation in one or more stages, e.g. by impregnation with an aq. soln. contg. HCl, H2PtCl6, HfOCl2 and Mn(NO3)2 or (NH4)2TcOH. The catalysts are esp. useful for reforming or aromising, but can also be used for hydrocracking, isomerisation of alkyl- aromatics, hydroisomerisation of 4-7C paraffins, or hydro- or steam-dealkylation of alkylaromatics. Incorporation of both Hf and M' increases the selectivity of the catalysts, esp. when used for continuous high-severity reforming (to RON=102+) in a series of at least 2 mobile-bed reactors. |
