Integrated double glazing panels are provided with at least one layer of flexible reflective thin film supported between the layers of glazing and folded so that the film be deployed as a partially extended pendant film or contracted as close-packed (concertina pattern) folds. May be contracted to allow insulation through a window panel by day, then extended to reduce radiant loss via the panel at night. Pref. the film is of polyester vacuum-coated with aluminium, typically about 50 micron overall thickness. The screen may be made from strips joined edge to edge pref. with weld or fold zones at least 1 mm wide. Heat loss via a panel of 1.20 sq. m with internal screens of 1.03 sq. m (projected) area across a temp. differential of about 37 deg. C was 2.42 W/sq. m deg. C for an empty panel. 1.03 W/sq. m deg. C for a panel with one internal screen deployed; 0.78 W/sq. m deg. C for a panel with two internal screens deployed.
|
