The motor drive shaft is fitted to the output shaft of a normal 12engineandgearboxandhasadamperdevicefittedbetweenthe output shaft and drive shaft. This damper has a ring shaped housing filled with a viscous fluid in which floats a ring shaped inertia weight. The weight revolves normally at the same speed as the shaft. During alterations in shaft speed the weight tries to revolve at a constant speed thus damping noise and vibration. This also serves to lessen torsion fatigue in the gearbox and engine.
